Tshibaka statement on Supreme Court nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson

Alaska Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kelly Tshibaka today issued the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s intention to nominate District of Columbia Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“True to form, Joe Biden is nominating a clear leftist to the most important court in the country, who would undoubtedly follow her ideology in her rulings and write legislation from the bench. As a senator, I will always oppose nominees who prioritize their own opinions over the law, and will always support constitutionalist judges who follow the Constitution.

“It’s hypocritical for Biden to highlight his desire to bring diversity to the Supreme Court, since as a senator he did everything in his power to block Justice Clarence Thomas from the Supreme Court, using his committee to conduct a 'high-tech lynching,' in Thomas's words. He also tried to block the nomination of Janice Rogers Brown, a black woman, from a seat on the D.C. Court of Appeals. Clearly, diversity doesn’t count for Biden if a black nominee is not a liberal.

“And once again it’s time for the favorite Washington, D.C. pastime of guessing which way Lisa Murkowski will vote, although this time the clues are there. Murkowski was one of just three Republicans to vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to her current position, and she has already spoken approvingly of Biden’s plan to consider only black women for the Court. When I’m the next senator from Alaska, the people will never have to wonder what my views are. I will always side with the Constitution and oppose radical leftists.”
