Kelly Tshibaka statement on Lisa Murkowski’s anti-2nd Amendment vote

Alaska Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kelly Tshibaka today issued the following statement regarding Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s press conference to explain her vote to advance the gun control package to final passage in the Senate:

“It’s entirely fitting that Lisa Murkowski addressed Alaskans by an invite-only Zoom call, because she’s always safely ensconced in Washington, D.C. with the insider friends she’s made over her 21 years in the Senate. And she just demonstrated why no one trusts her on important issues - she voted to undermine the 2nd Amendment but wants people to believe she didn’t. We all agree that mental health is a problem that needs to be addressed, but I will never support legislation that restricts the rights of law-abiding Alaskans. Red flag laws, for example, are easily abused to improperly deny lawful gun ownership to citizens, including men and women who have served this country in the military. At least Democratic candidate Pat Chesbro is up front about her support for restricting gun ownership, so we know exactly where she stands. In Alaska, the lawful ownership of firearms is part of who we are, but Murkowski is too intent on impressing her elite D.C. friends that she’s forgotten all about us. When I’m the next senator from Alaska, I will always fight for our constitutional rights, I will always stand up for the 2nd Amendment, and I would have voted against this gun control bill.”
